Meet Queen Charlotte Sophia

I have seen this Royal portrait before....as a kid.  As my memory serves me someone told me that she was black.  In the past several weeks, I've had this same portrait running through my head.  So, thanks to Google, Bing and other search sites, I've found several confusing sources on who this Queen was and her obvious features of African Ancestry.

Facts that I do know about her:  She was born May 19th 1744 and is a direct descended from Magarita de Castro y Sousa: a black branch of the Portuguese Royal House.

-She was born Princess of Mecklenburg-Sterlitz and later married King George III which made her Queen consort of Havouer (a.k.a. Queen of the United Kingdom)

-She had 15 children with King George III.

-Patron of the Arts, especially support Mozart and Bach (Musicial geniuses)

- I found that many historians disagreed with each other that she wasn't necessarily black.  But, mulatto descendant due to mixing of African and inbreeding of royal blood.

Well, if you ask me and look at her you can tell she's of African descent, she may not be mixed race but.....

Leave a comment below and let me know what you think.  I love finding out about history that's not necessarily in the textbooks about Africans people before slavery.  African American's history DOES NOT start with slavery.

Nine years ago we lost an Angel: Aaliyah

I remember when I heard the news that Aaliyah died.  I was getting ready for class in the morning,  I was a borderline freshman/sophomore in college.  I turned on the tube switched the channel to MTV and had gotten the announcement that Aaliyah was killed in a plane crash.  I literally dropped my bowl of captain crunch cereal on the kitchen floor and watched MTV news in amazement that such a young, beautiful girl could die at literally the start of her mega stardom.  I mean I bought all of her albums, I mimicked her style: baggy jeans, dark shades, hair over the eye.  Back and forth was my anthem in middle school.   That was my "Jam" back in the day. Her smooth lyrics, Her dance moves, voice of an angel, her gorgeous smile. I absolutely loved her.  And realize there will be no one to even come close to her style.  So this day the anniversary of her death I have to say rest in peace, Aaliyah.  Thank you for contributing to my life's soundtrack and gracing us with your presence.

My favorite song by Aaliyah.

Remember En Vogue....

Four gorgeous women:  All can sing ( I mean really sing) talented, classy.  And they had the name of En Vogue.  Perfection! They made some amazing anthems for women.  They had a message,  sophisticated with pose and elegance: NOT thrusting and grinding the floor in next to nothing.  They were above all that.  Hell, they didn't need to do all that.  Thier natural talent took you away.  Although I am was 80's baby, I was a 90's MTV kid and they were what I wanted to look like & act like.  I wanted to be them,  they were like barbies (hence: Not Nikki Minaj) No offense to her because I actually like her...but to have four of Nikki Minajs in a group would look kind of silly.   Anyways, I ran across their "Best of" CD today in my collection and I had to share.  I loved them.

Viva La Mexico!

My note to Mexico:
You were great last week. I love your many drinks, ur sandy beaches & all of your curious looking creatures. I am home in the states now but u have my love and some of my blood from ur vampire mosquitoes. lol! Anyways you were a blast! Until next time...

This will forever be in my mind...

Cancun was nothing short of amazing....I loved every bit of it.  Had to revisit my high school learned Spanish language, to the friendly people, the sandy beaches, clear ocean:  I mean really clear.

You can literally see my foot.
I was loving God's creation, truly beautiful.  I took over 300 pics and I am just now uploaded them and thought I share a few with you fellow blog readers :)  My sister and I both agreed this was trip to be taken for the both of to reflect.  What's the next step in our lives, to relax and enjoy ourselves.  And we did.  I can seriously say I have a clearer mind, that the things that used to bother me: I shrug them off.  Because life is way too short to be wasted on...worrying and wondering on the what ifs.

Everyday I was at the beach....mostly mornings, early afternoon.  (oh, yeah I still got a tan line)  Getting my Mahogany glow on and of course protected with the SPF 30 because Black people do burn, for those who may think its different with us.(rollin' eyes) lol!

Ran into some curious creatures, real close too.

Look real close, you will find the lizard.
Geico. lol! These lil' dudes will get in your villa...you have to be careful.

The baby coati very cute...the bigger one not so much.
We did go one excursion to Chitzen Itza Amazing Ancient Mayan Ruins.
The pics does not do it justice....they were so huge! I was so nerdy psyched
